Rules of Hockey: 24 Aug: Changes in indoor and outdoor rules will apply from 1st Sept in all competitions. Outdoors the experimental rules on free hits become full rules,
it is no longer an offence to force an opponent to foul, penalty goals disappear, and fhd in the circle must be in line with the position of the offence. Indoors, experimental rules become full rules, fha in the opposition half deflected off the sideboard may enter the circle without touching another stick, and penalty goals again disappear. In both games, penalties for offences during penalty corners will be listed in detail. Full details available via the EHB website news page.
East Handbooks: 17 Aug: These are due for delivery around the region in the first half of next week. Numbers are the same as usual. If any problems, please wait until the end of the week to signal if you have not received your copies. (Norfolk clubs not in the East Leagues will receive copies at their preseason meeting).
Technical Officiating: 1 Aug: It has been the practice for the past few years to run a training/familiarisation for Technical Officiating at the PLUM pre season tournament. This year PLUM is being held on Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12 September next. Three venues: Chelmsford [Sat and Sun], Old Loughtonians [Sat] and Redbridge [Sun]. Running such a course this year will be very dependant on numbers so if you are interested in becoming a Technical Official and would like to attend, or have more information, would you please contact Sheila George as soon as possible at smg.68@btinternet.com or on 01493 752189.

World Record Attempt: 19 June: NE14Hockey, the East League sponsors, are running a World Record Attempt over the bank holiday weekend, August 27-30, in aid of Cancer Research to bring the World Record for the Longest Outdoor Mens Field Hockey match from the North (Wigan) to the East. The Mercian Mercianeries will take on the Logica Brilliants for the title in a game lasting 30hrs at the Bushfields Sports Centre in Peterborough. Running alongside the event will be a 7's Festival for Mens, Mixed and Ladies with plenty of room still left for teams. David Vinson: 14th June: Hockey coach David Vinson has died on June 10th, aged 66 and following a long illness. A bachelor, he leaves a brother Ossey and sister Caroline.
David was a major force in hockey coaching nationally, internationally and in his native East of England, and was only the fourth person worldwide to be appointed an International Hockey Federation Master Coach. He was a long time member and player for Pelicans as well as being East Coach, was at the helm at Southgate Hockey Club during the 1980s and 90s when its men's first team won a host of titles, and held national coaching posts for England Men and England U21s.
His funeral will take place at 4pm on Friday, June 25 at Mintlyn Crematorium, Lynn Rd, Bawsey, Kings Lynn PE32 1HB.
